Tolkien Reading Event 2018

Tolkien Reading Event 2018

Every year on March 25, the anniversary of the Downfall of Sauron, the Tolkien Society hosts Tolkien Reading Day. This year’s theme is Home and Hearth: The Many Ways of Being a Hobbit. The primary goal is to promote the reading of the works of J.R R. Tolkien! To celebrate, Pages Unbound will be hosting two weeks of Tolkien-related posts. In addition to our own thoughts, we will be featuring a number of guest posts!

This sounds amazing. However, I feel like it’s missing an important post. There needs to be a post on Norse mythology and how it inspired him, as well as the Norse influences than can be found in his work such as Beowulf, rings of power, dwarfs, magic ruins, and even Midgard meaning Middle Earth, just to name a few. There is so much the Norse mythology did to help inspire Tolkien’s work that I think it’s only appropriate that a post is written about the mythology of the vikings.
