Ooh, Mark Musa did a portable Dante? This I have to check out; my brother and I have been comtemplating on picking up a companion book recently…Great list! Yay for Middlemarch 🙂
Yes, Musa’s book has The Divine Comedy translated into iambic pentameter and also a translation of the Vita Nuova! I’m not sure if by companion book you wanted a guide to Dante, but I use Guy Raffa’s The Complete Danteworlds; it summarizes each each section and then explains most of the allusions. (Since Musa’s book is well footnoted, I find that the two work well together.)
My new thing is to gift everyone Middlemarch as part of my secret strategy to make everyone love George Eliot. Thus far no one has reported even reading it, so I might need a new strategy.

I finally bought myself a copy of Middlemarch! I’ve been saying for years that I need to read it. Maybe 2016 will be when I make it happen!
